Psychedelics & Tantric Sex

Both in-person and via Zoom

Humans have been taking psychedelics nearly as long as we've been having sex – namely, since the dawn of our species. This workshop explores the connection between the two.

Millions of years ago our Homo habilis and Homo erectus ancestors encountered Psilocybin-containing mushroom species across the temperate regions of the world and undoubtedly consumed them. The resulting expanded visionary and emotional capacity set the foundations for the emergence of shamanism and the deliberate use of psychoactive plants to enhance ritual activities and visionary experiences in all cultures. Some scholars go so far as to attribute the rise of intelligence and altruism in humans to the use of psychedelics.

The Olmec, Maya and Aztec civilizations used Bufo toad venom (5-MeO-DMT) and Psilocybin. Native Americans of the SW United States and Mexico used Mescaline from the peyote cactus. South American tribes have been using Ayahuasca for thousands of years. Stone Age cultures from Spain to Iraq used Psilocybin, even depicting mushrooms in their sacred art. There are numerous references to a hallucination-inducing plant called Soma in the ancient literature of India.
